“There ought to be limits to freedom.” ~ Bush

Beautiful and innocent Iraqi children

Looking at photos of Iraqi children, the ones that have not been killed yet in the war, I am struck by how beautiful they are, and how innocent. There’s an old song: “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world, red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world.” My heart aches for these children, who are victims of the misdeeds of the leaders of countries, including the a–hole that runs my country. Give peace a chance!

USA Politics: is it important that we consider ourselves a CHRISTIAN NATION?

So I want to ask you this: is it important that we consider ourselves a CHRISTIAN NATION?

It seems like that is what part of the core of the presidential debate is about. I see what Obama’s point is about public policy not being based on one religious work or another but on commonsense principles available to anyone of any faith, but James Dobson and other religious leaders say that he is twisting the Bible

The founding fathers wanted church and state to be separated but the popular religious leaders think that Christianity is being oppressed and persecuted if it is not allowed to be dominant in politics.

Democracy is not religion-specific

“Democracy demands that the religiously-motivated translate their concerns into universal rather than religion-specific values. What do I mean by this? It means that their proposals must be subject to argument, and amenable to reason. Now I may be opposed to abortion for religious reasons, to take one example, but if I seek to pass a law banning the practice, I can’t simply point to the teachings of my church or evoke God’s will. I have to explain why abortion violates some principle that is accessible to people of all faiths, including those with no faith at all. Now this is going to be difficult for some who believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, as many evangelicals do; but in a pluralistic society we have no choice - politics depends on our ability to persuade each other of commonalities based on a common reality. It involves compromise… The best we can do is act in accordance with those things that we all see, and we all hear.” -Barack Obama

Obama and socialized health care plan?

Obama, who represents some of the ideals that I cherish - (such as staying out of dumb wars that were based on lies and propaganda - and seeing the need for change), also has some problems. The big one: socialized medicine. I don’t want to have to pay for someone else’s medical bills if I acquire a house and then I sell it.

Plus, I don’t believe in the regular medical system anyway because it’s B.S. a great deal of the time. To fix the medical system requires NOT requiring more people to participate in it so that everyone goes bankrupt, but promoting knowledge that helps people prevent expensive illnesses. The medical system promotes health problems and financial problems the way that it is. I also don’t want someone else choosing when or if I go to my doctor. And if the socialized medical care plan would not cover alternative health care AND prevention then it does not represent me by any means.

But whether it’s through years of war or taking our wealth by forcing us to participate in socialized health care, I have the feeling that the powers that be want one thing: they need an economic, financial, and political crisis so that they can institute controls and sneakily pass laws that restrict our freedoms. Regardless of who the candidate is, I feel that they have us where they want us: in a corner.  It’s more like asking a child a Love and Logic question: would you like to go to bed at 8:30, or 9:00? The end result is that they are going to go to bed at a time that you have chosen. How or when they get there is the only thing that they are choosing.
